Memorization
Memorization is very doable and healthy for the growth of your child. It is harder for adults than for kids. I hope you see your child’s handbook as a beautiful tool to help you and your child spend time in God’s word throughout the week. It teaches the Bible in an age-appropriate way for your child’s mental development.
- If your child has learning disabilities or comprehension delays, please let me know and I can print off the special needs’ verses.
Some ways to help your child is by:
- Looking up the Bible verse on YouTube by typing the verse and then type the word Awana. ie: John 3:16 Awana. Then click on the Bible version that you want.
- Buy the handbook app for Cubbies and/or Sparks. There are two Cubbies books/ three Sparks books so make sure you buy the correct app for the correct handbook.
- Make up hand motions for the verse or look up the ASL for the verse on YouTube.
- Come up with a tune to sing the verse to, like “Jingle Bells.” If they can sing the verse, it counts!
- Write out their verses on a white marker board and put it where you will see it often.
- Say the verse together 3x daily around dinner time, breakfast, snack time, bedtime.
- Make a picture grid of the verse by drawing pictures/symbols instead of words.
- Remind them that they will receive points for completing one handbook section!
Below is an example of a pictograph for John 3:16. I used Microsoft Word to create a table for my grid and used icons and shapes to make the pictures representing each word of the verse. Some kids really like drawing their own pictures for a verse pictograph.
