Wheatland Community Church

About Us

Our History

Wheatland Community Church started as a Bible study on Mother’s Day 1992 in a home on Briarwood Lane in Scottsville, NY. After a couple of years of growth and expansion to two neighboring homes, in the spring of 1994, it became time to start looking for a facility to launch the public worship service planned for September 1994. Since the majority of the core team was from Scottsville, all possibilities were first exhausted there, before widening the search to neighboring Rush, NY.

The opportunity to share the North Rush United Church of Christ facility in the mid-summer presented itself and this small congregation was more than happy to allow us to use their church at 11:00 a.m. after they finished their earlier service.
Within a few years, this congregation decided to fold and they allowed us to purchase the property on very generous terms and for a very reasonable price.

It should be said that years before WCC was planted, there were many disciples of Jesus praying for a Bible-basedchurch to enter the Rush area. One person was an elderly disciple who lived just a mile down the street. She had been praying since she became a christian in the mid-1980’s. Grace Evangelical Free Church of Webster, NY was the other known supporter via prayer as well as some preparatory leadership and direction by their Senior Pastor, Jim Panaggio.

Most importantly, it should be pointed out that every good decision and every successful ministry step has been the direct result of the inspiration and power of the Holy Spirit– all for the glory of God.

We are part of the Allegheny District of the Evangelical Free Church of America.
