What is Summer Day Camp?
Summer Day Camp is a fun-filled camp for children who are entering K5 – 6th grade. Children can pick their camp (When you register online) from the following options: Sports, Nature, Science, Art Journaling, and LEGO Camp. Summer Day Camp is designed for kids to engage in a specific activity that they enjoy and grow in their understanding and skill in it. The emphasis of Summer Day Camp is for kids to LOVE the activity they choose. In the afternoon, children will engage in more general camp activities, like crafts, games, music, and a Bible lesson.
What happened to the Optional Afternoon Child Care?
The Afternoon Child Care was going to be a new option for 2023, but is now cancelled due to lack of interest. We apologize if you were looking forward to taking advantage of this option.
What will my child be doing at Summer Day Camp?
Here is daily schedule:
8:30am – Drop off starts (doors open); children go to the camp that they signed up for
8:45am – Main Camps (Soccer, Building, Nature, Science, and Horse camp)
11:00am – Lunch (Provided by WCC) – consisting of fruit, vegetable, granola bar, fruit snacks, chips, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You can bring your own lunch if these options will not be sufficient for your child.
11:30pm – Crafts
12:00pm – Music Time
12:30pm – Bible lesson
1:00pm – Games
1:30pm – Pack up and Camp Recap
2:00pm – Pick-up
How much does Summer Day Camp cost?
Nothing! It is completely free! If you are the type of person that dislikes receiving something for free however, you can make a donation at www.wheatlandchurch.com/give if you would like. Please know that we do not expect or ask you to donate.
What will my child be learning/doing in the various camps?
Sports Camp: Grades K5 – 6th – Sports Camp registrants will learn the basic rules and skills of 3 sports (Soccer, Kickball, and Street Hockey). Sports Camp registrants will also play fun and active games such as Capture the Flag, Frisbee Golf, Handball, etc.). Children will often be split up by age groups (K-2 and 3-6). On Sunday, July 16th, at 10:00am, we will celebrate the children’s accomplishments with awards ceremony and a BBQ lunch. There will also be opportunity after the service/lunch to enjoy some sports!
Nature Camp: Grades K5 – 6th – Join us for a fun week of exploring and hands-on activities while we discover the wonderful ways God created our world and everything in it! We will explore topics such as worms, birds, trees, fungi, flowers, and bugs. On Sunday, July 16th, at 10:00am, we will be highlighting some of our camp activities. Please plan to enjoy a BBQ lunch with us after the service.
Science Camp: Grades K5 – 6th – The camp will spend each day exploring an aspect of God’s world. This will include a brief lesson, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Each day a new branch of science will be explored: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Astronomy. Join us Sunday, July 16th, at 10:00am for a presentation by Science Camp, with BBQ lunch after the service.
Art Journaling Camp: Grades K5 – 6th – Come explore the fun of creative journaling! Campers will learn hands-on about the art of bookbinding, tea-dying paper, paper printing, collage, and scrapbooking! We will get scrappy with creating artistic page layouts and decorating our journals with pictures, doodles, stickers, beads, stamping, and secret pockets!!! You won’t want to miss a moment of journaling with us about your awesome life!!! On Sunday, July 16th, at 10:00am, the Art Journaling Camp will present one of our projects from the week. Please plan to enjoy a BBQ lunch with us after the service.
LEGO Camp: Grades 3rd – 6th – For the love of all thing LEGO! Participate in daily LEGO challenges: boat races, escape from disaster island, and more! Campers will be working on individual LEGO kit builds throughout the week and take them home at the end of camp. They will be building an inspirational LEGO mosaic mural that will be displayed in our children’s wing at the church for the group presentation on Sunday, July 16th, at 10:00am. Please plan to join us and enjoy the BBQ lunch afterwards.
What does my child need to bring?
***All campers should bring a bookbag, water bottle, and sun screen, if desired ***
If signing up for Sports Camp: Bring your own soccer ball on Tuesday, July 11th (Subject to change). Shin-guards and mouth guards are encouraged on Tuesday (Soccer) and Wednesday (Street Hockey) but not mandatory. We may choose to repeat soccer/hockey on Thursday and/or Friday depending on the students’ interests.
If signing up for Nature Camp: No need to bring anything special.
If signing up for Science Camp: No need to bring anything special; maybe just play-clothes you don’t mind getting possibly dirty during experiments.
If signing up for Art Journaling Camp: Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. (Make sure anything you bring can be shared with the group. Do not bring original photos or anything too precious that will be missed if it gets lost or damaged.) *Copies of a couple personal photos, stickers, and washi tape.
If signing up for LEGO Camp: No need to bring anything special.
